VERITAS PETFLEET MEMBER OF THE MONTH

U.S.S. Veritas is proud to announce the Petfleet member of the month for October 2026:

PCC #1742:  Bella Lunita “Luna” Elizabeth
Caretaker:  LTJG Lance E. McFeron

LTJG Lance McFeron rescued Luna as a kitten from the underside engine space of a parked car. This is a common place for cats to hide their kittens or to stay warm when temperatures drop. Luna immediately bonded with her human and took ownership of him, learning all of the tricks to train “her person” from other established cats within the home. Luna enjoys copious amounts of lap-time, rolling in catnip leaves, and sleeping on top of her human at night. Luna gets excited when she hears the music for Strange New Worlds and runs to jump into LTJG McFeron’s lap to watch every episode with him.

Have you registered your pets as bona fide members of STARFLEET?  Pets get their own membership registration number (PCC), a Welcome Aboard letter with assignment orders to their caretaker’s ship, and a beautiful membership certificate to hang on the wall of their crew quarters. This is a fun, free benefit for all STARFLEET members.

USS VERITAS SCIENCE DEPARTMENT

I’m honored that FCPT Freeman selected me to serve as USS Veritas’ Chief Science Officer. In this role, I hope to provide you with useful, helpful, and engaging information about happenings and opportunities within the STARFLEET Sciences and Petfleet communities. As an introduction, I’m a Navy veteran living in Houston with my wife, who runs a small cat rescue. At the end of June 2026, I retired from a 35-year career with a 3-letter federal agency and decided to go in a totally different direction, re-enrolling in university to get a degree in horticulture.  My 5 kids and 9 grandkids live across Texas and in Louisiana, so I get to do a little bit of traveling.  Enough about me…

“Please state the nature of your medical emergency.”

October is here, and a lot of change is in the air. The weather is turning crisp, football season is mid-stride, and school is helping educate our future leaders. There are also unwelcome changes. Throughout the month of October, pink will be everywhere as a reminder of the reality of breast cancer. All of us know someone who’s been affected by cancer. In my family, my mother, sisters-in-law, and daughter-in-law have all fought breast cancer. Many kudos to the breast cancer community for their tireless promotion efforts regarding testing, treatment, surveillance, and survivorship, not to mention the support for those diagnosed with the disease, but for their families and caregivers as well.  The color we see most often is pink, which symbolizes breast cancer awareness. But did you know other cancers also have awareness ribbons? As a cancer overcomer myself, I’m encouraged knowing God fully healed me, and I can commemorate His victory with a representative ribbon/colors for my battle. Take a moment and look at the chart below – and be aware – that many people are in the cancer fight – on many fronts.

To the researchers, scientists, and healthcare providers doing the impossible:

THANK YOU!

To the families, friends, caregivers, and support systems walking the path, too:

WE LOVE YOU!

To those on the front lines, in direct combat with the aggressor:

YOU ARE NOT ALONE! Your battle scars are badges of honor, for you stand among true warriors.

You ask, “What can I do?

  • Have regular physicals and check-ups. Your healthcare team can help you develop and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
  • If you notice something out of the ordinary, don’t delay in getting it checked out. Early detection of disease is key to achieving optimal results.
  • Get tested regularly, on time, and as doctors order.
  • Be there for those struggling with illness, disease, and healthcare challenges.
  • Educate yourself.  STARFLEET Educational Services, Institute of Medical Arts (IOMA), has established the College of Cancer Studies to facilitate cancer awareness. The program includes 6 course groupings, totaling 32 courses.
